In Pakistan, it is conventional for the parents of the bride-to-be to present her with dowry items at the time of the wedding. These dowry articles are given as gifts to the daughter, and the wife is completely entitled to keep possession of them in the event of a marital conflict or the dissolution of the marriage between the husband and wife. Anytime the wife benefits from such gifts given to her by her husband, she is legally entitled to sue him or his family to recoup her losses.

Some History Of Dowery in the Islamic Republic of Pakistan

According to sources, the type of dowry that is required as a requirement belongs to Hindu traditions and has nothing to do with Islam; there is no concept of requiring a necessary dowry in Islam. Muslims in the Indo-Pak region “Islamized” the idea and gave it the name “jahez” after the arrival of Islam. This phrase’s origins are in the Arabic word “tajheez,” which means to get someone ready for a voyage. The commodities are known as “jahazun.”

Since the majority of the Muslims in the Indo-Pak region were originally Hindus who later converted to Islam, they continued to practice some of their customary traditions with minor variations. 

They used the fact that the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) also provided gifts to his daughter Fatima Zahra (R.A.), despite the fact that these gifts were straightforward household items, to defend their actions.
